Chittorgarh, Rajasthan – On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, achievements in rural connectivity in the district were highlighted.
Under the scheme, the Public Works Department has constructed approximately 75,000 kilometers of roads across the state over the past 25 years, connecting 15,983 settlements and villages with all-weather paved roads.
In Chittorgarh district, 323 settlements have been connected with all-weather paved roads by constructing 1,664.02 kilometers of roads and two bridges at a cost of approximately ₹375.67 crore.
This scheme has provided improved road connectivity to remote and rural areas of the district.
It is noteworthy that the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana was launched on December 25, 2000, by the then Prime Minister, Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The scheme’s objective was to connect villages across the country that had previously been cut off from the mainstream road network.
Over the past 25 years, this scheme has emerged as the backbone of rural development.
In the first phase of the scheme, 798.12 kilometers of roads were constructed in the district at a cost of approximately ₹224.08 crore, connecting 327 settlements with all-weather paved roads. 475.35 kilometers of roads were also widened and strengthened. In the second phase, 135.30 kilometers of roads were widened and strengthened at a cost of ₹30.27 crore.
In the third phase, 255.25 kilometers of widening and strengthening work has been completed on 33 roads at a cost of ₹121.02 crore.The Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana has proven to be a milestone in the all-round development of rural India.
Launched with the vision of ensuring that no village in the country is deprived of a paved road, this scheme has facilitated rural access to education, health, employment, and markets.
Better transportation facilities have given a new direction to the social and economic development of rural areas, which has significantly improved the standard of living in rural areas.
